Installing Apache 2.2.14 on Windows

If installing on Windows XP – Apache recommend uninstalling the QoS Packet Scheduler as this can cause 100% CPU usage.

Download Apache 2.2.14 from here
Run the downloaded installer (apache_2.2.14-win32-x86-no_ssl.msi)

Configure the installation options as :
Network Domain = automatically filled-out
Server Name = automatically filled-out
Administrators Email = automatically filled-out

Install Apache = For All Users, on Port 80, as a Service — recommended
Setup Type = Custom
Custom Setup = Select All Features and Sub-Features
Install To = C:\apache-2

Enable `mod_expires` and virtual hosts :
In c:\apache-2\conf\httpd.conf

change from #LoadModule expires_module modules/mod_expires.so
change to LoadModule expires_module modules/mod_expires.so

change from #LoadModule vhost_alias_module modules/mod_vhost_alias.so
change to LoadModule vhost_alias_module modules/mod_vhost_alias.so

change from #Include conf/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf
change to Include conf/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf

Optimise the settings :
Under the line : DocumentRoot “C:/apache-2/htdocs”
Add …
ExpiresDefault now
ExpiresActive On
Win32DisableAcceptEx

Save changed and exit
Then re-start the Apache Service.
